Accommodation in South Skye
South Skye is sometimes referred to as ‘the garden of Skye’, having a very different landscape and profile to the mountains of central Skye, and the northern peninsulas of Skye.
It is of a softer, more gentle nature, with the milder climate supporting a wider variety of plant life and extensive woodland. Deer roam freely and buzzards, peregrines and sparrowhawks compete for air space above the moorland; dolphins and porpoises frolic in the Sound of Sleat.
The Glasgow to Mallaig train-line takes you on one of the most scenic railway journeys in the Uk. At Mallaig you can get the Caledonian MacBrayne ferry over the sea to Skye. The ferry runs to Armadale which is in the South of Skye. The island is now joined to the mainland by the Skye Bridge which connects Kyle of Lochalsh with the old fishing port of Kyleakin. Another very small community-owned ferry still runs from Glenelg on the Mainland to Kylerhea.
South Skye offers every kind of accommodation from the freedom of camping to the luxury of Hotels, including a wide range of Bed & Breakfast and Self Catering. Broadford, Breakish, Luib, Kyleakin, Armadale, Isle Ornsay are some of the many paces in South Skye that you can stay.
